CSIR UGC NET Eligibility 2022: Age Limit, Qualifications for JRF & LS, Reservation

The NTA has mandated the CSIR UGC NET Eligibility 2022 (National Testing Agency). The CSIR NET 2022 eligibility criteria are determined by the National Testing Agency (NTA) based on age and educational qualifications.

CSIR NET Eligibility Criteria 2022

To take the exam, candidates must meet all of the CSIR NET eligibility requirements. The National Testing Agency establishes the eligibility criteria. Candidates for Lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship positions are chosen using the CSIR NET. Candidates who meet the criteria can register for and take the exam.

The CSIR NET qualifying criteria include age limits, age relaxation, and educational qualifications. There is no upper age limit for candidates applying for lectureships. The exam is only open to those who meet all of the eligibility requirements. To avoid last-stage disqualification, it is critical to follow the CSIR NET eligibility requirements before taking the exam. CSIR NET Age Limit

Candidates should check the age restrictions before applying for the CSIR NET exam. The CSIR NET Age Limit for JRF and Lectureship is also different, as candidates can see below.

  • The maximum age limit for the Joint Research Fellowship (JRF) is 28 years as of January 1, 2022.
  • The upper age limit may be relaxed by up to 5 years for reserved category candidates (SC/ST/PWD and female applicants), and by up to 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer candidates).
  • For the Lectureship, there is no minimum age requirement.

CSIR NET JRF Age Limit

For all categories, use CSIR NET to check the age limit for JRF. The general categories have a maximum age limit of 28 years. Government guidelines allow for age relaxation in various categories.

  • The maximum age limit will be 28 years old on January 1, 2022.
  • For SC/ST/PWD/Female applicants, the maximum age limit is 33 years as of January 1, 2022.
  • The maximum age for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) applicants will be 31 on January 1, 2022.

CSIR NET Lectureship Age Limit

For the Lectureship through the CSIR NET, there are no age restrictions. Candidates can apply for the exam at any age if they meet the other requirements.

  • There are no age restrictions.

CSIR UGC NET Educational Qualification

The following are the educational requirements for CSIR NET.

  • Candidates must have a minimum of 55 percent in a BE, B.Pharma, B. Tech, MSc, Integrated BS-MS, MBBS, or any other science degree.
  • Candidates who fall into the reserved category receive a 5% grade reduction. Candidates who have completed their graduation (10+2+3) and are pursuing an M.Sc are also eligible to take this exam.
  • Candidates must have completed a B.Sc. or be enrolled in an Integrated MS-PhD programme with a minimum of a 55 percent mark to be considered.
  • Candidates with an engineering or science background who enrol in a Ph.D. or Ph.D. integrated programme within two years of graduation are eligible for the fellowship.

CSIR NET Subject-Wise Education Qualification

Qualifications with at least 55 percent for General and Other Backward Class (OBC) candidates and 50 percent for Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates are required by the CSIR UGC NET qualifying standards.

Earth Science Within the required qualifying criteria, earned an M.Sc./BS-MS/BS-4 Years/B-Pharma or any equivalent degree in the field of Earth Science.
Chemical Science Have an M.Sc./BS/B-Tech degree in Chemistry or a comparable qualification in Chemistry with the required percentage.
Physical Science Have a valid M.Sc. Physics, BS-MS in Physics, or any other equivalent degree within the required percentage.
 Mathematics To meet the eligibility requirements, you must have earned an M.Sc./BS-MS/BS/B-Tech or an equivalent degree in mathematics.
Life Science Only pursued a Life Science academic qualification.

Important Note

  • Candidates enrolled in an M.Sc. programme or who have completed 10+2+3 years of education are also eligible to apply under the Result Awaited (RA) category if they will accomplish the qualifying degree with qualifying marks within the 2 year validity period to be eligible for the fellowship beginning on the effective start date.
  • Only PhD holders who received a 50% grade on their master’s degree before September 19, 1992, are eligible for lectureship.
  • Candidates who qualify for Lectureship will be eligible for both Lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship in a Scheme/Project if they are otherwise qualified. They will, however, be ineligible for the Regular JRF-NET Fellowship.
  • JRF (NET) candidates will receive fellowships from the CSIR or the UGC, depending on their assignment, or from schemes with which they may have an affiliation.
  • Candidates who have been declared eligible for a UGC Junior Research Fellowship or a Lectureship will be subject to UGC rules and regulations in this regard.

CSIR UGC NET Nationality

To be eligible for CSIR NET 2022, the candidate must be an Indian citizen. Candidates of various nationalities are not allowed to take the exam. If you are an Indian citizen who lives in another country, you are eligible to apply for the exam. All you have to do now is make sure you have proof of your nationality.

CSIR NET 2022 Reservation Criteria

The CSIR has specified some norms regarding relaxation of minimum marks requirements and upper age limit for candidates from various restricted groups (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD) and female applicants. For qualifying applicants from the reserved categories, there is a relaxation of marks in the table below:

Selection of Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship

Candidates must indicate whether they are applying for JRF or LS based on their eligibility and indicate their preference in the CSIR UGC NET Application Form.

  • A candidate who applies for JRF and meets the lectureship eligibility requirements will be considered for both JRF and LS.
  • If a candidate is found to be too old for JRF (NET), he or she will be considered only for Lectureships (NET).
  • The candidate’s choice/preference in his/her application form is final, and no requests for changes will be considered at a later stage.
  • The number of candidates who pass the exam is determined by the number of fellowships available and their performance in the test, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
  • Candidates with an M.Sc degree or in the M.Sc Result Awaited (RA) category are eligible for a Lectureship (LS), provided they meet the UGC’s eligibility requirements.

CSIR Eligibility for NET LS/JRF Exam [Subject Wise]

  • CSIR NET Eligibility for Life Science – Candidates must have one of the above-mentioned degrees in Life Science to be eligible for the CSIR NET Eligibility for Life Science.
  • CSIR NET Chemical Science Eligibility – Candidates must have a valid M.Sc./BS/B-Tech or equivalent qualification in Chemistry with the required percentage criteria mentioned above, according to CSIR Eligibility.
  • Candidates must have completed M.Sc./BS-MS/BS-4 Years/B-Pharma or any equivalent degree in the field of Earth Science within the required qualifying criteria, according to the CSIR Exam Eligibility guidelines for Earth Science.
  • To meet the CSIR Eligibility conditions for Maths, CSIR NET aspirants must have a valid degree in M.Sc./BS-MS/BS/B-Tech or any equivalent study in Mathematics.
  • CSIR NET Eligibility for Physical Science – Candidates must have a valid M.Sc. Physics or BS-MS in Physics or any related degree passed within the required percentage to be eligible for the CSIR NET Eligibility for Physical Science.

How many attempts are there in CSIR NET?

In the CSIR NET, there is no limit to the number of attempts. For the JRF, candidates can fill out the CSIR NET Application Form until they reach the age of majority, and there is no limit on the number of attempts for the Lectureship. Candidates may submit as many applications for lectureships as they wish.

What is the age limit for taking the CSIR UGC NET Exam?
