On their official websites, state education boards and NCERT prescribe the NTSE Exam Pattern. Candidates can use the exam pattern to assist them to prepare for the national level exam. Stage 1 (State Level) and Stage 2 (National Level) are the two stages of the NTSE selection procedure (National Level). The NTSE has no set curriculum, however, the questions are based on Class IX-X. The NTSE exam for 2022 is expected to be held in November 2022, and the application forms for NTSE 2022 will be available in due time.
The exam is broken into two components for both stages: the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) (SAT). The NTSE is set up in an offline or pen-and-paper format.
Students must choose one of the two languages. There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers, and there will be no negative marking for incorrect attempts. Each section will take 120 minutes to complete. Only those who pass the Stage 1 exam will be invited to take the Stage 2 exam.

NTSE 2022 Stage 1 Exam Pattern
The NTSE 2022-23 exam is divided into two parts. The concerned state/UT authorities undertake Stage 1 at the state/UT level. The question paper is divided into two sections: MAT and SAT.
According to the NTSE test pattern 2022-23, stage 1 examinations can be taken in Hindi or English. There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers, and there will be no negative marking for incorrect attempts. The following is the NTSE 2022 exam pattern for both stages:
Part 1: Mental Capacity Exam (MAT)
- The MAT is made up of problems that need analytical and logical reasoning.
- The Mental Ability Test assesses the candidate’s reasoning, thinking, evaluating, discriminating, and visualising abilities.
- There are a total of 100 questions in this section.
- The Mental Ability Test covers a wide range of themes, including series, pattern perception, analogies, coding-decoding, classifications, hidden figures, and problem-solving, among others.
- The test will last 120 minutes.
Part 2 – Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
- A total of 100 questions from Science (40), Social Science (40), and Mathematics (40) are included in the SAT part (20).
- The candidate’s reading ability, interpretation, appraisal, and general knowledge of the subjects are all tested in this phase.
- The SAT part has a time limit of 120 minutes.
- The questions will be on a level that is comparable to a class 10th or equivalent exam.

NTSE Stage 1 Marking Scheme
To shortlist the eligible candidates, NCERT uses a certain marking scheme.
- 01 marks will be added to the total score for each right answer.
- For a wrong response, there will be no negative marking.
- Marks will not be deducted from your grade for the unanswered question.
- To earn good grades on the NTSE exam, students must mark as many accurate answers as possible. Only those who achieve the minimum cut-off marks will be eligible for the scholarship.
It is important to note that only students who pass both of the papers will be considered for merit. The recipients will be chosen based on their total score on the MAT and SAT parts.
NTSE 2022 Stage 2 Exam Pattern
- NCERT will conduct the Stage 2 test at the national level.
- Only the Stage 1 selected or qualifying candidates are eligible to compete for the scholarship in Stage 2.
- The Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) are two elements of the NTSE exam pattern 2022-23 for Stage 2. (SAT).
